LERT Training

What is LERT? Good question…. Lutheran Early Response Team. What does that really mean though? Another good question. Members of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod come together to help others after natural disasters and also in community outreach events throughout the year. LERT class is a basic introduction to training individuals to understand why we are responding and what to expect when we do go out into the field to serve our neighbors.

The LCMS, the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, is the denomination that I am a pastor in. With their support this past year, I was able to set aside from my parish ministry and pursue Forged by Fire on a full-time basis. Part of my responsibilities is to serve as the DDRC, that is the District Disaster Relief Coordinator for the Southern District of the LCMS. Don’t you love acronyms?

I recently had the pleasure of driving up to Huntsville Alabama and got to teach a basic LERT class. The next day, Pastor Trae Fistler came in and taught a basic chainsaw class. Both events were successful. The rain on Saturday would not stop the chainsaw class. Much like the slogan of the Post Office, “Rain, sleet or snow will not stop our carriers” or something like that. We would not be deterred or stopped that day.

Big thank you to the LCMS for their support, Grace Lutheran for being wonderful hosts, and of course Pastor Trae for driving down from Kentucky to lead the chainsaw class.
