Slidell Tornado Service

We continued our service to the southside community of Slidell this week. Both days we tried to serve a traditional Louisiana weekday meal. Monday was red beans and rice with smoked sausage. Tuesday was a delicious Italian spicy sausage and ground beef marinara sauce with penne pasta dish. Both meals were served with local French bread and desserts. In the two days we served over 1,200 lunch meals to our community.

It is humbling to speak with those in-line waiting for a meal. In all the stories of loss and destruction, almost all ended with “We are thankful to be alive”. How true… We often forget what is truly important, but those who survived this event have not.

As many in the area have finally gotten their power restored, we like other organizations in the area are scaling back on the mass food service events. But that is not to say that FBF is finished in Slidell, we are just evaluating how we might best help those impacted by this tornado.

Thank you again to all who have volunteered to help serve this community and to those who have donated to this project. Big thanks as usual to the local supporters who make this work easier. Walmart, Pelican Wholesale, Steve’s RV, The Village Church, and the LCMS. We could not do this without your support.
